Career Change in Your 20s/30s: How to Switch Without Starting From Zero

Career change can be scary because it feels like you will lose progress. But in reality, many of your skills transfer—communication, problem-solving, leadership, planning, and domain knowledge. The goal is to switch smartly, not abruptly. Start by identifying your transferable strengths and a target role that benefits from them. Then build missing skills through a short learning plan and 1–2 strong projects. Update your resume to highlight relevant achievements, not just job titles. Use networking to find real insights and entry points. A planned transition often takes 3–9 months, but it’s worth it when you move into a role that fits your long-term future.
